“The Murf” by Nixon

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Nixon is really on top of their game right now…

They took their classic, top-selling, “Murf” watch and modernized it for us.  Now, we’ve got the watch in a variation… made with rubber. This is one of those watches that will have you answering “Where’d  you get that?” questions ALL DAY.

It has a distinct look to it which makes it stand out and now that more colorways and fabrics have been added, I don’t think there is a single flaw in this collection.

Grab em for $275 at Nixon retailers worldwide.

The Emotion Lab: Moon Watch

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One of the most intriguing things I have EVER seen…

The moon has been a guide and object of admiration and mysticism during thousands of years. Agriculture, fertility, tidal patterns, human behaviour and many other activities have been linked to the different moon phases.

Moonwatch has been designed to establish a relationship between the moon cycle and a person’s emotional states. It’s a new concept of time based on nature which invites people to reflect upon and gain a closer understanding of their mood and daily life on earth.

Those are the words of the creators of this fascinating piece.  The Emotion Lab is a company with 4 designers coming 3 different countries that came together to do more than just create a product for the market.  They use a very innovative approach to every one of their projects and the final product is always an unforgettable, unique work of art.  There is no boundaries that they design within, which is something that I respect and admire.  Bottom line, they make dope stuff.

I’m actually kind of still uncertain of all the details of this watch, but I love it.  Right now, this is the conceptual design of the watch.  As more details come, I will update you on them but until then… just sit back and wait for this thing to come out!  I guarantee I will own one withing the week of its release.

G-Shock x Jordan Collection

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

G-Shock teamed up with MJ for this very exclusive release.

I used to be a huge fan of G-Shock watches a few years back, but then the obsession just kind of faded.  Since I gained interested in other styles of watches, I’ve still kept my eye on the progress that Casio has been making with the new styles of G-Shocks.  Only a few of their newer designs are drastically different than previous models, so none of them really catch my eye.  BUT, with this collection… they caught my eye immediately.  They’ve been collaborating with a lot of different designers and clothing lines lately, but Jordan brand is easily the biggest, most successful, and most recognizable collaboration.

This collection features 3 different models of G-Shocks in 3 brand new colors.  There is a DW6900CB-2 in baby blue, which represents MJ’s college days as a Tar Heel.  Next, there is the black GD100B-1 and the DW6900CB-4 in varsity red to represent his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls.

You want specs?  I got specs:

– Water Resistant – Up To 20 atmospheric Bars (200 meters)
– 1/100 seconds Stopwatch Function
– Full Automatic Calendar
– EL Backlight
– Multiple Alarm Settings
– 12/24 Hour Formats

I really like the models that G-Shock used in this collection, the colors are fresh as hell, and the theme of the collection is great.  These watches went on release a few days ago and are available in limited quantity in Footaction retails stores across the country!

Horodron HD-01 (Concept)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a bold step towards the future of timepieces…

Most of time, when you find a watch you like, you’re going to run into one of two issues.  Either it’s too hard to read or it just doesn’t look cool.  The Horodron HD-01 would cover both of those issues extremely effectively.  Although this is only a concept, the chances of production are very likely.  The concept looks amazing.   It has five rows of screens, indicating the day in the week, the day, month and year.  Thanks to e-Ink, all the displays are as clear as typed text. The readout for the actual time is set below these rows, in a white-on-black standard digital display.  The designer, Jonathon Frey, got very innovative with this concept by creating a watch that is both fashionable and informative.  This is something that people would love to see go into production.  As I get details, I will update this post.

The Unit by NIXON

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

NIXON watches are elite in the fashion world.  They pride themselves on their nicely designed time pieces, mostly made in metal and plastic materials. However, their recent release, The Unit, is made of a polycarbonate case with a silicone wrist band — a little different than their usual look.  Its genius though, they switch their style up and produce an original aesthetic, which is similar to  a diver’s watch. This time piece is very easy to read, it has a digital display that shows the time, date and temperature. Also, there is an additional stop watch, count down timer, alarm clock and back light function to increase its usability.  If I had to compare this watch to another, I’d say that this is NIXON’s version of the Casio G-Shock.  They have a lot of similar characteristics and features, even some of the same materials.  The Unit is water resistant down to 100 meters and it comes in white, yellow, navy, black and green color-ways.  I assume that this watch will be a little less expensive than the G-Shock, but isn’t a shameful alternative because it is made by one of the most prestigious watch companies in the world!  They should be available at any NIXON dealer across the country.

Casio G-Shock x ALIFE

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

When two fashion powerhouses collide…

The Casio G-Shock…it is THE watch to have.  ALIFE Fashion… the king’s of the simple but effective t-shirt and a highly desired clothing line.  This winter, the two have joined forces to give us The G-Shock G5500 AL-1 aka The Flagship Exclusive.  Just like most exclusive items, there will be a limited supply.  There will be a stock of 200 pieces available on a pre-order, first-come first-serve basis only…starting on December 18.  As you can see above, this watch includes the original ALIFE graphics along the band as well as a very nice “face” that is black on black with a reverse LCD display.  Below are some tech specs from the ALIFE website:

Tech Specs:

  • Self-Charging, Tough Solar Power
  • 200M Water Resistant,
  • Full Auto EL Backlight,
  • World Time (29TZ/48 Cities),
  • 4 Daily Alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm,
  • 1/100th Sec. Stopwatch,
  • Countdown Timer,
  • Mute Function, 12/24 Hr. Formats,
  • Battery Power Indicator
  • Power Saving Function

Of all these technologically advanced specs, the battery power indicator is by far my favorite feature.  I’ve owned many G-Shocks in my day and a lot of watches in general but I cannot recall owning a watch that told me what my power status is.  Maybe if I did I just didn’t know how to activate that feature, but I’m going to ignore that and give my “hats off” to this particular watch for being the first have that feature.

Like I said, these are going to be VERY hard to get so you better check out the ALIFE site and pre-order yours now!

We Wood… Would You?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We Wood watches are bringing the Green movement to the fashion scene.

As we all know, the wooden accessory movement has made it’s way into the fashion industry through brands such as GoodWood, W-Shock and North Skull but We Wood is changing the game on everyone.  With a purchase of one of their awesome watches, they indirectly reimburse your purchase by planting a tree in an urban area or in a struggling ecosystem.  Now, if you aren’t aware of the condition of our environment let me inform you… each tree makes a huge difference.  We Wood has teamed up with American Forests, which is our nation’s oldest non-profit conservation organization (1875).  This year, these two have come together to plant 4.8 million trees to help recover our air, water and wildlife.  Not only are you helping our environment but you’re also getting an incredible timepiece.  These watches run with the ever-trusted miyota movement method and are made with 100% natural, non-toxic, hypoallergenic wood.  A watch like this can not only bring confidence in your appearance but you can have a very nice response when someone says, “Hey, i love your watch!”

Meister x Anderson Silva – “Chief Watch”

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Meister Watches links up with the greatest MMA fighter of all-time to create this magnificent time piece.  The watch is built around Silva’s “killer bee” logo onto the very popular “Chief” watch.  The tonal rubber band sets off the stainless steel casing and frame which pops because of its black/yellow glow in the dark colors. Only 200 of these bad-boys were released and they were released at a very select list of retailers on Black Friday 2010…  anyone have one?
