Reebok Basquiat Affili’Art Collection: Omni Pump Lite

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Basquiat artwork on a basketball sneaker?  I dig that.

Reebok recently launched the newest design from the Basquiat Affili’Art Collection. Their classic Omni Pump Lite model is the shoe they decided to work with for the collaboration.

The shoe has monotone uppers that are made from leather, patent leather and mesh.  Basquiat’s name and logo replaces most of the Reebok logos in the form of thick embroidery. To bring it all together, there is an all over print of Basquiat’s three point crown logo on the white leather.

These are very limited, so act fast.

Craig Redman: The Guise & The Protagonist Collections

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

These are brilliant.  Craig Redman recently delivered these great portraits at Slam Jam this year.  This is actually a combination of two different collections by Redman, The Guise and The Protagonist.

In The Guise, you’ll find Terry Richardson, Kanye West, LeBron James, Lady Gaga and The Pope standing out among the rest of the popular portraits.  This collection is full of highly recognizable pop culture icons.

In the other collection you’ll find the elites of the fashion world.  You’ll see Dolce & Gabana, The Missonis, Armani and Riccardo Tisci standing out as the fan favorites.  The remainder of the portraits are all very well-known designers.

Both collections are very unique and creative.  I will definitely be looking into more of Redman’s work in the future.

Introducing: pARlaiTin Wire Sculptures

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’m a huge fan of unique art… Check out this great display of creativity & talent.

One day last week, I received a  random Twitter mention for @pARlaiTin with a comment that says “Check out our sneakers made of wire!”  So, as most people would… I checked out the link attached.  After opening that link, I discovered one of the most unique art forms still alive today, wire sculptures.  Quality wire sculptures, might I add.

pARlaiTin is the company.  Curtis Anthony is the man behind the wires.  He does more than just wire sneakers, I just chose to display them because they are my favorite.  You can check out his work here to see his complete collection of hand made sculptures.

If you like one, buy one!  I plan on doing so in the near future.

The Emotion Lab: Moon Watch

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One of the most intriguing things I have EVER seen…

The moon has been a guide and object of admiration and mysticism during thousands of years. Agriculture, fertility, tidal patterns, human behaviour and many other activities have been linked to the different moon phases.

Moonwatch has been designed to establish a relationship between the moon cycle and a person’s emotional states. It’s a new concept of time based on nature which invites people to reflect upon and gain a closer understanding of their mood and daily life on earth.

Those are the words of the creators of this fascinating piece.  The Emotion Lab is a company with 4 designers coming 3 different countries that came together to do more than just create a product for the market.  They use a very innovative approach to every one of their projects and the final product is always an unforgettable, unique work of art.  There is no boundaries that they design within, which is something that I respect and admire.  Bottom line, they make dope stuff.

I’m actually kind of still uncertain of all the details of this watch, but I love it.  Right now, this is the conceptual design of the watch.  As more details come, I will update you on them but until then… just sit back and wait for this thing to come out!  I guarantee I will own one withing the week of its release.

Supreme: The Alton Sunglasses

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Supreme gives us a dose of dopeness right as Summer begins!

These shades are handcrafted in Italy, which is always promising.  The frame of these glasses are similar to the traditional Wayfarer, but slightly flare around hinges. The lens aren’t plastic.  Not even acrylic.  They are made of anti-reflective glass, by Barberini. This gives them a great amount of protection against UV rays as well as optical clarity. They come in a jet black, checker and tortoise pattern which makes them unisex, stylish and very versatile.

Grab a pair…or 3 today.  They are available at all Supreme suppliers.

Kanye West x George Condo x M/M Paris: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Scarves

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The artwork for Ye’s latest album converted to a fashion accessory.

Starting next Monday, you can own a piece of Kanye’s latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in the form of a fashion accessory.  The Parisian design duo Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag of M/M Paris came together with George Condo and Kanye West to release a new collection of accessories. The collection features a series of Condo paintings commissioned by West for his latest album art.

Each of 5 the works were transferred onto 100% silk scarves measured at 90cm by 90cm.  Also, a Kanye West decorative border was then hand painted border on each by M/M Paris designers.  These scarves follow the painting names of: “Power”, “Face”, “Priest”, “Ballerina” and “Phoenix.”

No one in the rap industry has ever had this type of fashion affiliation and the fact that Kanye was the first to break that barrier is not surprising to me at all.  These are limited to 100 editions per print and will go on sale at MMParis.com and Parisian boutique Colette next Monday, May 9th.

Cliff Maynard — A “Higher” Level of Art

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Every piece of art above was hand-crafted with roach papers…

Let me start out by saying how amazed I am by these awesome works of art… Now, for some of you that may not know what a roach is: A roach is the un-smoked remains of a marijuana blunt or joint.  Now are you impressed?  Instead of throwing his roaches away, Cliff Maynard creates masterpieces with them.  Out of all the things I’ve previously written about, this takes the crown for being my absolute favorite thing.  I just can’t even imagine the process it takes to take a roach and make it into a very good piece of art.  With a lot of accumulated roaches, an Xacto blade and some glue, Maynard cranks these out 16×20 inch portraits in around 72 hours!  That is just flat out incredible.  Not only can he create a spot-on image of Jesus (which is very difficult), but also very accurate portraits of some of the most famous pot smokers ever, including Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley and Snoop Dogg. An original piece of Maynard’s work can cost you anywhere from $1,100 to $10,000 but replicas are sold online for around $80 a piece.  I definitely will be investing in one of these soon…

TRON: Legacy x Playboy Magazine

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This movie looks awesome… ha?

First, I’d like to apologize for my 4 day hiatus from the blogging world… final exams have taken every second of spare time this week, but now I’m back on my game.  So on with the important things…

I’m sure by now we’ve all seen the trailer for TRON: Legacy… So, just in case the action packed movie trailer didn’t catch your attention, Playboy Magazine has thrown us all an early Christmas gift.  Above is their TRON-inspired photo shoot, and I love it. This shoot featured Brazil’s Sasckya Porto and Russia’s own Irina Voronina, both wearing a very selective wardrobe.   Photographer Jared Ryder and illustrator Nigel Evan Dennis killed it with the special graphic effects to really bring out an authentic TRON vibe.  This is an interesting thing to see coming from Playboy, but I’m not mad…
